What We Do

New Beginnings was founded in 2014 and initially focused primarily on helping young people exit gang life style. This was done by developing the participants key life skills so that they could progress positively and were equipped with the basic tools they needed to succeed in the "real world".

These specific programs were extremely successful as aimed to interrupt negative thinking and behaviour, reducing criminal activity and the correlating issues including vulnerability, deprivation, gang culture, knife and violent crime, marginalisation, under-achievement and collective feelings of hopelessness.

Since then our approach has been amended to be more inclusive and looks at building trust with young people and connecting them to significant adults who they feel care for them. This is primarily stems from our core belief of “it takes a village to raise a child”. Our approach also looks at creating a protective community environment for our young people by allowing/supporting them to create connections with those around them, from shop keepers, street wardens and older local residents.

As a result our organisational approach looks at addressing this through a number of broad activities including supporting young people in improving their ability to communicate and engage positively with families, peers and community, improving their safety awareness and practice (minimising risk taking behaviour), getting more young people co-producing programmes and participating in local decision making and increasing confidence/self esteem and aspirations, with access to positive developmental opportunities.
