“New Beginnings is a youth organisation that focuses primarily on helping young people exit gang life style. This is done by developing the participants key life skills so that they can progress positively and are equipped with the basic tools needed to succeed in the real world.”
The programs delivered by New Beginnings Youth Provision (NBYP) also aim to interrupt negative thinking and behaviour, reducing criminal activity and the correlating issues including vulnerability, deprivation, gang culture, knife and violent crime, marginalisation, under-achievement and collective feelings of hopelessness.
Supporting Young People
Among many young people in these communities exists an overwhelming sense of hopelessness, with limited encouragement or desire to engage programmes to build skills, mental health and resilience as required to intervene and change this mindset and associated behaviour. Many have little to no support in their home environment, hence lack positive role model figures and guidance needed to improve entrenched issues and circumstances.
As a result some of the activities we focus on include;
Increased engagement with key-workers, community and/or wider support services around vulnerabilities
Improved ability to communicate and engage positively with families, peers and community
Improved safety awareness and practice (minimising risk taking behaviour)
More young people co-producing programmes and participating in local decision making
Increased confidence/self esteem and aspirations, with access to positive developmental opportunities
